JACK SHANAHAN
Julian

Guitar Instructor
Julian started taking guitar lessons at Jack’s around 2012 while in middle school and continued through the end of high school, graduating in 2017. While he didn’t pursue music academically in college, it was still a huge part of his life.
He joined the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band at the beginning of his college career and rose to the position of Section Leader of the alto saxophone section by 2019, which he held for his last two years with the band. He also became the President of the Epsilon Nu chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, a service fraternity dedicated to supporting the marching band and musical community at Umass Amherst.
It was here he further developed his own passion for creating music and admiration of the people that dedicated their time, energy, and hard work to honing their craft and sharing their knowledge with others. He has since graduated and is excited to be back at Jack’s, this time as an instructor putting the valuable experience he gained in college (if not his biology degree) to good work!

what inspired you into music
I was truly inspired when I realized music was an avenue for self-expression like no other, that allowed me to articulate thoughts and feelings in ways I’m not able to communicate through words alone. Music is a universal language and it speaks to all of us in different ways. I think that’s awesome!
FAVORITE TEACHING MOMENT
Achieving the right balance of teachable moments and having fun during a lesson. I want learning about music to be as fun as playing it for students!
